Timothy I. Barnes, October 5, 1949 – July 27, 2014

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Tim on July 27 after a short and courageous battle with cancer. He leaves us to join his sister Lisa Poole and his in-laws Lew and Katie Morton. He leaves to mourn, his beloved wife Wendy, his loving mother Patricia Gauthier, siblings Vicki Dahl, Diane (John) Rooyakkers, Paula (Jack) Mayenburg and his “baby sis” Denise Finamore, in-laws Tim (Maggie) Poole, Norm (Shelly) Morton, Howard (Sandy) Miller, Bill (Val) Morton, Pat Morton (Ron Paul) and many nieces, nephews, aunts, adopted family and good friends. Tim also leaves his constant companion, his “downsized malamute” Cleopatra.

Tim was proud to be born and raised in Powell River and was a loyal Cranberry-ite. He spent most of his working life in the forest industry, from millwork to booming. Tim and his partner Mike Devaney had great fun and success in Sea Fair’s Sidewinder Rodeo for many years. Tim loved his jobs on the water as he was a keen observer of nature.

Tim was a great sports fan and in his early years was active in men’s and mixed beer league baseball and enjoyed many volleyball games at Stillwater School. He was an avid fisherman until developing an allergy to fish and then he was happy to just watch the fish heading up to spawn through our bay. He loved hiking the bush over the years with our “pine picking” malamutes. Tim loved his piece of paradise in Saltery Bay and after becoming disabled in 2007, he was content to just watch the tide come and go from his little round house in the bay. His aversion to geese and deer gave him some constructive activity in his more recent years.

A special thank you to Dr. Schweitzer, Dr. Jubb, the Pallative Care Team, fouth floor nurses (thanks Karen) and our hospice volunteers for their care and compassion in helping Tim be as comfortable as possible. A celebration of Tim’s life will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, October 4, from Lang Bay Community Hall. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Tim’s name to the charity of your choice.

Funeral arrangements entrusted to Westcoast Funeral Services. To express condolences, please visit www.wcfuneral.com.

Tim, you will be missed beyond measure by all who loved you. We know you will be with us all forever.
