William “Bill” Masters It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of William “Bill” Masters. He was born on January 29, 1940 in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario and passed away on December 6, 2014 in Powell River.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of William “Bill” Masters. He was born on January 29, 1940 in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario and passed away on December 6, 2014 in Powell River.

William was predeceased by his partner Zita Nedelec and is survived by daughter Annette (Vernon), son Mark (Trina), grandchildren Kylea, Dawson, Cody and Madison and many nieces, nephews and friends.

William lived in Powell River for over 40 years. He was an active member in the community and loved where he lived.

He enjoyed fishing, mushroom hunting and being outdoors in general. William will be missed by his family dearly.

There will be a service held at 1 pm on Thursday, December 18 from Living Water Foursquare Church, 4640 Manson Avenue.

Michael Edward Andreatas-Abremski, May 10, 1952 - December 4, 2014

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Michael. He was born in St. Petersburg, Florida and passed away peacefully at home in Powell River in the loving care of his son Dom “DJ” Fisli.

Michael is preceeded in death by his parents William and Angela Abremski of Baltimore, Maryland, Peter C. Andreatas and Ann Cocchiaro Andreatas-Walker and his sister Patricia Andreatas of St. Petersburg.

Michael is survived by his confidant and best friend, Vlatka, sons Maks and Dom “DJ” Fisli of Powell River, sister Darlene Dyess and niece Ashley Gaspard of Metaire, Louisiana, sister Nancy Andreatas of Orlando, Florida, brothers Peter and John Andreatas, nephew Niko and nieces Aramis, Annalyse and Alanah of St. Petersburg.

Michael went to Boca Ciega High School in St. Petersburg. He moved to Canada in 1974 and settled in Powell River. Michael was a master carpenter by trade and was in the boating business. He restored all kinds of boats…from sailboats to yachts and returned them back to their original state. He took great pride in his work. He also created the Powell River Latin Dance Club with his most trusted friend, Vlatka.  Together they created a new dance called “The New Millennium Jive.”

Michael loved boating, dancing, travelling and cared deeply for his family. He had a spirit that was full of energy; you could feel it when he walked into the room. His smile and his kindness will always be remembered by his friends and family.

Rest in peace, Michael, we love you and will miss you dearly.


Paul Gallant, May 16, 1936 - November 27, 2014

With sadness we announce the passing of Paul at age 78. He leaves behind his loving companion and partner Koreen Crawford and family, his daughter Laura and family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and family in Quebec and New Brunswick.

Paul, a logger, had Hunechin Logging Company in Sechelt. He moved to Powell River and built Lang Bay Store.

Paul will be greatly missed by many.

Dorothy Hobbs, November 29, 1929 - December 8, 2014

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our precious Mom, Dorothy Hobbs, in Evergreen Extended Care Unit.

Mom is survived by her children Rick Hobbs, Gayle (Bill) Evans, Susan (Norm) Evans and John (Blaire) Hobbs, her beloved grand-children Leslie (Rob) Ius, Jason Evans, Curtis (Amber) Evans, Kelsey (Mark) Montgomery, Scott Evans and her great-grandson Kaden Kozmeniuk to whom she was Gramma Dot. Also left to mourn are her sisters June (Fred) Hutchinson and Gayle Ross, her sister-in-law Mary Downey and their families.

Mom’s nine-year battle with dementia is now over and she has left us to join her much loved husband Andy, her parents Jack and Flo Downey and her brother Jack who passed before her.

There are so many people to thank. Dr. Rossouw, you have been our rock. You kept us so well informed on her illness and we knew you were always there. Thank you. The staff at Olive Devaud and Evergreen Extended Care Unit were amazing. They welcomed Mom and loved her. So many hugs over the years. Sunshine Unit we love you all. Thank you.

To all our friends and family who supported Mom and us on her long journey, thank you. We would have been lost without you.

There will be a memorial for Mom when the warmer weather comes, allowing relatives to come from out of town. The time, date and place will be announced in the Peak.
