Shirley Anne Gomez (née Thompson),September 19, 1930 - December 13, 2012

It is with profound sadness the family announces the sudden but peaceful passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, sister and dear friend. Surrounded with love she passed with her family by her side.

Shirley was predeceased by her son Shane and her great-grandson Dyson. She is survived by her four children Garry, Diane (Jim), Brian (Nicky) and Sandie (Andy), as well as her grandchildren Krystal, Shelby, Jacquelyn, Richard, Jennifer, Brent and her eight greatgrandchildren Madison, Chase, Padn, Noah, Trey, Taylor, Nathan and Gemma. She was able to become a child again and cherished her time spent with her wonderful grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Gramma,

The love on your face, the concern, the pride, the joy and the enjoyment as you watch your grandchildren play a game in your backyard, this is what I think must be best about being a grandparent. I wonder how it must feel to see your own children in the faces of these small ones. You have said many times to us all how much you love them, but I think we could see it is abundantly clear if you never said the words at all. Your face is easy to read. You love them. You love us all and we are so blessed by you.

Golden years? Well, I believe that speaks of the gold you bring to our lives, the priceless way we can all see your love. That is truly golden, and it is absolutely clear…

We are so thankful for you, Dr. Hoffert, Dr. Morwood, oncology nurse Janet White, Emergency and ECU Nurses and fourth floor Nurses for all your wonderful care of Shirley.

Please join us for a celebration of Mom’s life on Saturday, December 22, from 1 to 3 pm at Powell River United Church on Michigan Avenue, where she spent many evenings with her friends.

Hurry Mom, Darlene, Gladys and Shane are waiting for you.

Walter Werner Temple, January 14, 1926 - December 13, 2012

Walter passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at age 86. He was predeceased by his wife Cornelia Maria Temple (née Degroot), his mother Erna and his sister Katiea Millarch of Eberswalde, Germany.

Walter and Corrie are survived by their eight children Walter (Sandra), Barbara (Rick) Morgan, Thomas (Claude), Catherine, David (Cindy), Monica (Ed) Judd, Rosemary and Patricia (Doug) Greenwood. Also survived by grandchildren Ryan, Carrie, Kelley (Blair), Joshua, Theo, Catherine, Camille, Tori-Lynn, Shannon, Joshua, Thomas, Adam, Sarah (Dan) and Ryan as well as great-grandchildren Kaysee and Devyn. They will all miss him greatly.

We will miss his whimsical character, generous nature, commitment to family and friends, loving kindness, humour and most of all his presence.

The family wishes to express their thanks and appreciation to all the hospital staff who gave him great care and assisted the family in their grief: Dr. May, Dr. McBride and Dr. Hoffert. Thank you to all the nurses who attended in his short stay in Powell River General Hospital. Thank you Father Dass for assisting Walter and the family spiritually.

A mass of Christian burial will take place Friday, December 28, at 1 pm, at Church of the Assumption, 7109 Glacier Street, followed by internment and reception. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Covenant House, a charity that Walter supported wholeheartedly.

Dad, you are our best friend, our mentor, the father we love and adore. We thank you for your dedication and selflessness. Your devotion to God will carry us forever and you will never be forgotten. We take solace knowing that you are now “keeping the Mom company.”
