Stephen Ralph Mattick, September 30, 1947 - December 8, 2011
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden death of Stephen while undergoing heart surgery at Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria. He is survived by his mother Ruth Mattick, his sisters Vicky McClennon, Georgina (Gordon) McCubbing and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father William.
Stephen was born and raised in Powell River. He spent many happy hours as a child playing across the street in Lindsay Park and swimming in Cranberry Lake. While he was growing up he enjoyed bowling and later worked setting pins at Dini’s bowling alley. During his teens he also worked picking salal and eventually managed the local warehouse in Wildwood. His love of golf started in his teens as he played his friends at the Powell River golf course in Townsite.
Stephen worked in the Powell River pulp and paper mill and eventually transferred to Nanaimo to work at Harmac Sawmill from where he retired as a saw filer in 2006.
Stephen was a long-time member of Nanaimo Golf and Country Club as he always kept up his keen interest in the game. His interests included reading, music, hockey, computer games and socializing with family and friends at Cosco after a round of golf.
If friends so desire, donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Private family arrangements have been made.
Rest in Peace
