Robert Edward Watson Robert Edward Watson, 83, of Owensboro, Kentucky, died on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at Wellington Parc. Robert was born on July 15, 1929 in Powell River to the late Robert R. and Elizabeth B. (née Cairn) Watson.

Robert Edward Watson, 83, of Owensboro, Kentucky, died on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at Wellington Parc. Robert was born on July 15, 1929 in Powell River to the late Robert R. and Elizabeth B. (née Cairn) Watson.

He apprenticed in the Powell River mill to become a journeyman machinist, married and then moved to Aberdeen, Washington in 1952. It was there that he became a superintendent of the manufacturing division of Lambs Gray. He went on to become a master machinist and enjoyed gun smithing and Mustang cars. He went to Kentucky to help set up Western Kraft Paper Mill in Hawesville, and retired from Jefferson Smurfitt as Plant Engineer in Alton, IL.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Leslie B. Watson in June 2005. He was a member of the Church of England.

Robert is survived by his four children Bradley (Pam) Watson of Brevard, NC, Wendy (Stephen) Eubanks of Owensboro, Tracy (Orville) Snyder of Lewisport and David (Tamara) Watson of Alton, IL, five grandchildren Steve (Shana) Eubanks, Bobby (Adria) Eubanks, Sean (Layla) Eubanks, Kyle (Tiffany) Snyder and Baily Watson, eight great-grandchildren and a sister June E. Richardson of Vancouver, BC.

Robert’s final resting place will be in Powell River.


Esther Marie Lewis (née Williams), January 7, 1916 - January 29, 2013

Esther was born in Maymont, SK and passed away in Powell River, BC at the age of 97 years. She is survived by her children Marian, Dorothy, Kathleen (Rod) and Bill (Anne), 11 grandchildren, 22 great- grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Eileen Savident and many nieces and nephews. Esther was predeceased by Earl, her husband of 70 years, in 2003.

Esther and Earl came to Powell River in 1934, returned to Saskatchewan for two years before coming back to Powell River to raise their family. Work and health reasons had them moving several times. Esther worked for Eatons Department Stores in New Westminster, Surrey and Powell River and at Peterson's Jewellery Store.

Esther was active in the United Church wherever she lived and had many good friends. Family was of utmost importance and she was a loving and supportive mother and grandmother. She resided at the Kiwanis Garden Manor and Evergreen Extended Care for the past two years - again finding friendship with residents and staff.

A celebration of Esther’s life will be held on Saturday, February 9 at 1:30 pm from Stubberfield Chapel, 7221 Duncan Street. If so desired a donation may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of BC & Yukon.

Philip Bert Murphy, April 18, 1966 - Thursday, January 31, 2013

Phil was born in Rochester, New York and passed away suddenly in Powell River, at the age of 46. He graduated from Carson Graham Secondary School and attended the University of Victoria from 1984 to 1987.

Phil was a loving father, brother, life partner, and friend; a man who was so full of love that he had plenty to spare for anyone he met. He is survived by his four beautiful daughters Alexandra, Victoria, Olivia and Georgia and their mother Kimberley Murphy, his loving sister Rachel (Richard) Peterson and nephew Connor Peterson. He will be sincerely missed by Lisa MacDougall, his soulmate and life partner and her son Brandyn Offley.

Phil worked in a variety of fields over the years, from head brewer to marina manager, park ranger to coffee roaster, carpenter to theatre production manager and considered himself a jack of all trades. His most recent jobs were as a projectionist at the Patricia Theatre in Powell River and as a grocery clerk at Save-on-Foods and patient computer technician to the baffled elderly. Phil was heavily involved in Far Off Broadway, the Friends of the Patricia Theatre, was an active volunteer in various community theatre groups, had a long-time passion for the restoration of historic buildings and was a member and volunteer of the Townsite Heritage Society of Powell River. He was passionate about history, both ancient and Civil War, and was a member of a Civil War re-enactment group in Friday Harbor, WA.

There will be a Celebration of Phil’s Life held on Saturday, March 2 at 1:30 pm at the Patricia Theatre. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Murphy Girls College Fund that is being set up at First Credit Union for his daughters.
