Ronald James Bennett, March 9, 1948 - January 2, 2012

Ron is survived by loving wife Dot, his loving sister Margaret (Ray) Kobzey and six children Sheryl (Wes) Coe, Eileen (Mark) Drakes, Christine (Kelly) Corder, Angela (Geoff) Gowans, Barry (Cheryl) Hanet, Sean Bennett and numerous grandchildren, greatgrandchildren and in-laws.

A celebration of Ron’s life was held on Saturday, January 7.


Sherry Lynn Makus (née Morrissey)

It is with great sadness that we announce that Sherry, born January 31, 1963 in Powell River, BC, has passed away on January 2, 2012 at her parents’ home, surrounded by her family after a short, hard-fought battle with cancer.

Sherry leaves behind her husband Ian Makus, son Broden (Monique) D’Angio, daughter Katelyn (Terence) D’Angio, parents Mr. and Mrs. John Morrissey, brothers Robert (Cher) and Richard (Sherry), in-laws Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Makus, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

All who knew Sherry loved her immensely and it is the joyful memories of her smile, laughter, and one-of-a-kind personality that comforts those of us she has left behind.

A service will be held in Campbell River, BC on Saturday, January 14 at 1 pm at Christian Life Fellowship Church, 445 Merecroft Road, followed by a tea and light refreshments. In lieu of flowers, we ask for donations to be made to the BC Cancer Agency. Arrangements entrusted to Stubberfield Funeral Home Ltd. To express condolences, please visit the funeral home website.


Reba Lumley, January 12, 1922 – January 8, 2012

Reba passed away peacefully on January 8, in Powell River, BC. She is survived by daughter Anna, son Archie, seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by son Shaughn, on  Christmas Day 2011. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the BC Cancer Foundation or a women’s shelter program of your choice. There will be a service held on Thursday, January 12 at 1 pm from the Stubberfield Chapel, 7221 Duncan Street.


Sheila Ross Gill (Nèe Meneely), January 31, 1931 - January 4, 2012

Sheila passed away early in the morning of January 4, after having been kept very comfortable thanks to the tireless efforts of all the wonderful staff at Olive Devaud Residence.

Sheila was born in Northern Ireland, and emigrated to Canada in the early 1950s. She fell in love with and married Peter Archibald Gill in 1956. She worked most of her life in government jobs which she enjoyed.  She will now be able to join her husband who passed away in 1979.

Sheila is survived by her son Ross and his partner Jamie, sister Margaret and her husband Elvin, and also her dear friend Virginia.

In lieu of flowers, we ask for donations to be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
