It is with sadness we announce that dad passed away on January 3, 2011 at the age of 92. He will be greatly missed by his family. He leaves behind his wife Donna, his son Percy (Adrian), his granddaughters Cynthia (Bob) and Melody (Jordan) and great-grandchildren Kyle, Jessica and Jennifer.

No service by request. Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.


Marion Lessard (née Hannah), October 23, 1931 - January 3, 2011

With great sadness the family of Marion Lessard announce her sudden but peaceful passing at St. Joseph’s Hospital, extended care unit, Comox, BC. Mom was predeceased by her husband Gaston, parents Hugh and Annie and sisters Etta, Anne and Mary. She is survived by her son Jim Diffin, daughters Carole Diffin (Paul) and Joyce Draper, eight grandchildren, 11 greatgrandchildren and one soon to be born, brothers Matt and Hugh (Roz) Hannah and many nieces and nephews.

We would like to thank all the doctors, nurses and caregivers who cared for her over the last 18 months. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Donations to the Alzheimer Society of BC would be appreciated. Piercy’s - Mt. Washington Funeral Home is taking care of the arrangements.


“Finally at Peace”

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Vernon Llewellyn Tuck Jr. of Powell River, BC, age 47 years. He was born in Vancouver April 1, 1963 and died January 6, 2011 in Powell River. He is survived by and will be greatly missed by his children Garrett, Brian and Miranda Tuck, his parents Vernon and Gwen Tuck, his sister Dianne (Dean) Harris, all residing in Powell River. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He will also always be remembered in a special way by Breanda Small.

Vernon had a great love for music and nature. Quite often you would find him strumming a guitar and singing or carving or cutting wood. He also liked fishing at the Westview Wharf and at Haslam Lake.

There will be a memorial gathering on Thursday, January 13 at 11:30 am at Stubberfield Chapel Reception Hall, 7221 Duncan Street. If you would like to remember Vernon in a special way, the family has requested donations could be made in his name to the local SPCA or a charity of your choice.  Arrangements entrusted to Stubberfield Funeral Home Ltd.

Lorna Morton, May 23, 1926 - December 31, 2010

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lorna on December 31 with her daughter at her bedside. She was predeceased by her husband Willis after 38 years of marriage, her son Bill McNicol and her sister Alicia. Lorna is survived by her daughter Frances (Vernon) Thomas, her granddaughters Laura (Bob) and Trisha (Gord), great-granddaughters Jennifer and Samantha (Chris), brothers Frank Best and Ted Best and many nieces and nephews.

Lorna was an avid horsewoman her entire life. She was instrumental in creating Powell River Trail Riders, bringing Therapeutic Riding to Powell River and establishing Paradise Exhibition Park grounds. She spent years teaching riding, helping train horses and spent years hauling kids and horses up and down Vancouver Island, Sechelt Peninsula and Lower Mainland to horse shows, riding lessons and horsetraining courses.

For the last four years, Lorna was a resident of Evergreen Extended Care Unit and we would like to thank Dr. McDonald and all the staff and nurses who gave her such wonderful care.

There will be a gathering of family and friends at Powell River Town Centre Hotel on Saturday, January 15 from 1 - 4 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Powell River Therapeutic Riding Association.


Beth Ritchie (née Oxbury)

Beth Ritchie (née Oxbury) passed away peacefully December 31, 2010 at the age of 86 at the Yucalta Lodge, Campbell River, BC, where she spent the last four years of her life. Beth was predeceased by her husband Victor and two sons, Bill and Bob and one daughter Dorothy Carmen. Beth (Mum) will be greatly missed by her daughter Lynn Martin, Campbell River, brother Bill Oxbury, Nanaimo, BC, two sisters Eva Coles, Burlington, ON and June Westgate, Powell River. She also had many grandchildren and great-grandchildren and friends.

Beth was a soldier of the Salvation Army while living in Powell River and was also an active member of the Royal Purple for 50 years. She worked at the Campbell River and District Hospital for 25 years as a chartered accountant. After retirement she volunteered at the hospital gift shop as well as other organizations. She made many beautiful articles such as knitted sweaters, socks and crochet doilies which she donated to a number of organizations.

There will be no service as requested. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Salvation Army. A family celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Our many thanks go out to Dr. Veerapen and the many nurses and care givers at the Yucalta Lodge for all their love and compassion given to Beth.
