Raymond Lewis Woodman, January 14, 1927 - January 11, 2011

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Ray with his loving family at his side. He has left us with many wonderful memories. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years Violet and his four daughters Laura (John) Cartlidge, Deborah (Ken) Jenkins, Katherine Anderson, Theo (Jim) Ferreira, eight grandchildren Tracy (Mike) Zanchetta, Spencer, Cameron (Lauren), Curtis, Michael, Matthew, Tyne, Wesley and one great-grandson Alex, his sister Sylvia Woodman of Kelowna and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Ray was born in Trail, BC. The family lived in Burnaby, BC before moving to Powell River in 1964. He was a 30-year member of the Rotary Club of Powell River, earning the designation of a Paul Harris Fellow. Ray owned Doiron and Woodman Construction for many years and contributed much to the building industry in Powell River. His greatest passion was his family and his love of the outdoors and he spent many hours fishing, hunting, picking salal and mushrooms. He was well known throughout the area and was a kind, gentle man who always had a smile for everyone.

We would like to thank Dr. Hoffert and Dr. Lafferty not only for their medical care but also their compassion. Allison and Sheena, you always brightened up Dad’s day and for that we really thank you. Also a special thank you to the nurses on the fourth floor of Powell River General Hospital for treating Dad with such respect and care. Thank you to the home care support workers for your kindness to Dad while he was at home.

A celebration of Ray’s life will be held on Saturday, January 22 at 1 pm at the Cranberry Seniors’ Centre, 6792 Cranberry Street. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to BC Children’s Hospital.

David Gordon Adams, February 15, 1961 - January 8, 2011

It is with sadness and heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of David on January 8 in Masset, BC (Haida Gwaii). David was predeceased by his mother Beverly Ann in 2005. He is survived by his spouse Denise, stepson Jason, granddaughter Sydnee, his fathers Ray and John, siblings Destry, Lisa, Mona, Julie, Sean, Ian and their families as well as a large extended family and many friends.

David was born and raised in Powell River. He joined the military in 1983 where he became a telecommunications lineman, a true fit for Dave. He served with the United Nations in the Golan Heights in 1987 and Cypress in 1989. He was proud to wear his seven medals and his blue peacekeeping beret. Stationed in Germany in 1990, he was sent to Bosnia for the first rotation when war broke out there in 1992.

David was posted to Masset which was a long-awaited dream. This is where he and Denise retired after 24 years in the military. David spent the last few years between Masset and Texada Island. His sense of humour, helping hands, art, music, beach walks and friendship quickly made him friend and family in Haida Gwaii. David went for his final beach walk on January 8, 2011.

A celebration of David’s life will be held on Saturday, January 22, at 2 pm at the Carlson Community Club in Powell River.
