Marleen Williams (née L’Heureux),  December 9, 1945 – August 15, 2011

Marleen passed away in Vancouver General Hospital, due to complications following a lung transplant. She was born in New Westminster, attended Lester Pearson Senior High, and broadened an early interest in sales with advertising and marketing courses at Douglas College.

In spring 1977 Marleen was hired by the Powell River News and Town Crier to sell advertising. There she met her future husband Steve Williams, then a photographer and reporter. Marleen’s close rapport with clients, sense of humour and business insight quickly established her in the community. She made many friends, and will be particularly remembered by business people of the time.

In December 1979, Marleen made the difficult decision to leave Powell River after being offered a sales position in the Kootenays. She married Steve in 1987, and the couple resided in Cranbrook where Marleen was a realtor for 28 years.

Steve said they often reminisced about Powell River, and would have liked to visit the area more frequently. They always kept a special place in their hearts for Powell River and the good people they met. For Marleen’s obituary and to offer condolences, please visit the website of Oliviera Funeral Home.
