Sarah Winifred Harrop, December 14, 1911 - December 18, 2013

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our very special Mom, Sarah, who many knew as Winnie.

Sarah was born in Liverpool, England, to the late James Frank and Ellen Gough and married the late Hugh McAdam Harrop on August 5, 1933. Sarah and Hugh lived in Liverpool until they emigrated to Canada in 1951.

Sarah loved to travel and created memories that lasted her lifetime such as kissing the Blarney Stone at Blarney Castle in Ireland, riding donkeys into the Valley of the Kings in Egypt, floating in a gondola down the canals of Venice, walking up the side of the crater on Santorini in Greece and sipping a Guinness in various pubs in her homeland, England. Sarah also loved to laugh and had a brilliant sense of humour and quick wit that carried her through life.

Sarah will forever be missed and remembered by her children Frank (Sonia), Graham (Anne) and Sandra (Lee), daughter-in-law Shirley and sisters Lil and Doris. She will also be lovingly remembered by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Sarah was predeceased by her parents James and Ellen, husband Hugh, sons George and Hugh (Clare Ann), daughters Joan and Irene (Dannie), brother Frank (Elsie), sister Irene (Ben) and brothers-in-law Bill and Bob.

A heartfelt thank you to the many incredible family members and dear friends who supported and spent time with Sarah right to the end and to all those who cared for her, Dr. Dohm, Dr. Jubb, Carol Smith, BC Ambulance service crew, Dave from HandiDart and the staff at Olive Devaud Residence.

There will be a celebration of Sarah’s life at a later date.

In honour of our Queen, Sarah, we ask you to raise a glass of Guinness and toast her memory. As Mom would say, make the most of every day, you don’t get these days back.
