Joan Gallagher, February 1, 1920 - January 26, 2013 It is with sadness that our family announces the passing of our beloved mother Joan Gallagher. She was a British expat who was a nurse during the second World War and later in Canada.

It is with sadness that our family announces the passing of our beloved mother Joan Gallagher. She was a British expat who was a nurse during the second World War and later in Canada. Joan was predeceased by her husband Patrick Joseph Gallagher and will be greatly missed by three sons, five grandchildren and eight greatgrandchildren.

The family wishes to express its gratitude to the loving staff of Olive Devaud Residence. A private family gathering will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Olive Devaud.


Elva Waltrout Bigalke, August 24, 1922 – January 24, 2013

Elva passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, at Comox Valley Seniors’ Village in Courtenay, BC on January 24, 2013. She was predeceased by her husband Otto. Elva is survived and will be greatly missed by her sons Rob (Ilene) and John (Betty) and her only grandson Chad.

In her leisure time she loved to golf and also enjoyed camping.

The family would like to thank the staff of D-1 at the village for all their love and compassion. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.

Joseph “Joe” Edouard Marc Wilfred Girard, September 15, 1932 - January 25, 2013

Chatharina would like to express with great sadness the loss of her beloved husband of 52 years, Joe, who passed away at home in Powell River.

Joe was born in Edmonton, AB and was predeceased by his parents Wilfred Zephrin in 1963 and Sarah “Sadie” McTaggart in 1938. Joe leaves behind his daughters Irma (Bob) Mahar of Halfmoon Bay, BC, and Helena (Larry) Rogers of Powell River and son Wilfred “Willy” (Tracy Agius-Girard) of Courtenay, BC. He is also survived by his grandchildren Ryan, Shawn and Thea Mahar, Joshua (Marie Little), Patrick and Melissa Rogers, Jonathon, Joey and Danny Girard and Mykle (Emma Gordon) Agius. Joe also leaves behind his sisters Gemma (Cyrille) Vidal of Kamloops, BC and Marie (Dave) Antonchuk of Vegreville, AB as well as Cathy’s sisters and brothers, and many nieces and nephews.

Prayers will be held on Friday, February 1 at 6 pm at Church of the Assumption. Mass of Christian burial will be on Saturday, February 2 at 1:30 pm at the church. There will be no graveside service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a youth charity of your choice.


Ole Wichelmsen lived in Lund, BC.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, February 4 at 1:30 pm at Stubberfield Funeral Home.
