Alice Annuka, July 15, 1926 - July 1, 2013
Alice was born in Leeds, England and passed away in Powell River, BC at Olive Devaud Residence with family by her side. She was predeceased by husband Helmut and sons Wayne and Chris.
Alice is survived by daughter Hazel (Co), son Les, daughter-in-law Liz, grandchildren Michael, Nicole, Tanya, Carrie and Jason along with many nieces and nephews.
Mom loved her family, her bingo and her Purdy’s chocolates, not necessarily in that order.
The family would like to invite you all to join us in a celebration of Alice’s life on what would have been her 87th birthday on Monday, July 15 at 1:30 pm, downstairs at Carlson Community Club.
All that we love deeply becomes a part of us.
Shirley Waterman (née Davies), June 30, 1930 – June 29, 2013

Shirley was a resident of Texada Island and Powell River for over 70 years and had a heart for community service, volunteering with Girl Guides and Brownies, Powell River Health-Care Auxiliary and the Senior Citizens’ Association of Powell River, Branch 49 among others. Shirley’s last request was to tell all her friends how much she appreciated them and to say thank you for enriching her life.
Thank you to Doctor Watson, home care nurses, Powell River General Hospital staff and hospice volunteers for their care at the end of Shirley’s life.

Ron Bekkema, May 15, 1951 - July 6, 2013
With sad hearts we announce the sudden passing of Ron. He was predeceased by his father Herb Bekkema and left to mourn are his family: wife Wendy, mother Lou, daughter Aurora (Shane) and their children Amanda, Samantha and Cody, daughter Lauren (Luke), son Chris (Shawna) and their children Oakley, Jordan and Michael, son Jimmy and sister Anne (Brian) along with many nieces, nephews and extended family.
A local boy, born and raised in Powell River, Ron was always loud and proud of his hometown. He was an accomplished high school athlete who continued his love of sports throughout his life and his love of golf, which was inherited from his parents. He was a trophy fisherman (in his own mind!), had a genuine and unconditional love for his family and friends, loved his cabin at Henderson Bay and cherished his time there with his family.
The family would like to express sincere gratitude to all the people who helped at the lake. Thanks to the first responders, police, ambulance attendants, Dr. Bremner and the emergency room staff for their caring assistance. Thanks for the support, condolences, food and flowers.
A celebration of life for our Ron will take place on Friday, July 12 from 1-4 pm at Carlson Community Club. Donations to Vancouver Children’s Hospital would be appreciated.
See you up the lake…
