Luigi Pagani, August 12, 1929 – July 6, 2014
Our hearts ache as we announce the passing of Luigi Pagani. Those left remembering this remarkable man and his journey are his wife Rosa, children Roger (Sherry), Robert (Noelle) Sandra, grandchildren Cleaven (Alisha), Brandi, Chayla (Erik), Raeann, Rosalea, Dalton, great-grandchildren Mia, Eli, Zoey, Cooper, Evan and Nyah, siblings Albert (Edie), Ana Prosperi-Porta, Mary (Silvano) Nadalini, Delfina (Ed) Frausel and sister-in-law Tina Pagani.
Luigi leaves behind a true legacy. In 1950, at the young age of 20, Luigi and his father Agostino struck out in search of a better life. They boarded a ship from Italy and arrived in Canada. Brother Albert joined them one year later, leaving behind their mother Maria, siblings Ana, Mary, Peter and Delfina. Onward they travelled to Vancouver, sponsored by Agostino’s brother Tony, where they worked to bring the family from Italy to Canada.
Luigi worked in Vancouver at Paris Boots until he joined the rest of the family in Powell River in 1952. There, he continued his craft as a cobbler and began Pagani and Sons Shoes. In 1961, he married Rosa Briganti and began his family.
As we remember Luigi as a husband, father, grandfather, and “shoemaker”, we are reminded of 1 Corinthians 13: “Love is patient, love is kind, it does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonour others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs…It always protects, always loves, always trusts, always hopes, and always perseveres.”
Although it’s difficult today to see beyond the sorrow,
May looking back in memory help comfort you tomorrow.
Predeceased by father Agostino, mothers Angela and Maria, brother Peter and brother-in-law Giuseppe “Joe”.
In lieu of flowers please donate to the Alzheimer Society of BC or the charity of your choice.
Prayers for Luigi will be held Friday, July 11 at 7 pm at the Church of the Assumption. Mass of Christian burial will be held at the church on Saturday, July 12 at 1 pm with reception to follow.
Joan Marilyn Lemna
Joan passed away Tuesday, July 8, at the Palliative Care Centre in Evergreen Extended Care Unit in Powell River. Joan was born April 28, 1937 in Powell River, the daughter of Fred and Flora Parker. She was united in marriage to Patrick F. Lemna on September 2, 1961.
Joan is survived by her husband Pat and her sons Brad and Mark, daughters-in-law Susan and Claire, four grandchildren Carly, Echo, Jessica and Robert, great-grandchild Henry, two sisters Carol and Judy and one brother Richard.
Joan was a dedicated mother and wife who enjoyed her home and garden. Throughout her life she was active in her children’s school and extracurricular activities, selflessly giving her time and energy to supporting her children’s interests. She could often be seen in the kitchen at cub camp, in the seat at a local music concert or standing in the pouring rain at the side of a soccer field.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the entire staff at Evergreen Extended Care Unit.
A Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday, July 15, at 2 pm in James Hall at Powell River Academy of Music. In lieu of flowers the family requests a donation to Powell River Academy of Music.
