Dorothy Caroline Magee, February 21, 1928 – July 10, 2013
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Dorothy at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Comox, BC. Born and raised in Saskatchewan, at a young age she arrived on Texada Island where she maintained her home and raised her family. She was an island resident for over 60 years. Health issues last November had Dorothy move to the Comox Seniors’ Village until last Easter Sunday when she was hospitalized.
Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Gordon, son Douglas and sisters Fern and Jean. Left to remember her always are son Bruce (Visa), daughter Diana (Jim) and sister Maxine. Dorothy also leaves behind grandchildren Mark (Sarah), Jeff and Danielle and greatgrandchildren Jacob and Emerie.
It was a beautiful serene July evening and as the sun was setting Dorothy closed her eyes for the final time and is now resting comfortably. Special thanks to doctors Black and Daws for their attention and care over the years.
No service by request. A tea reception on Texada Island to be announced at a later date.
Dixie Van Samang, November 14, 1952 - July 6, 2013
Dixie passed away in Surrey BC after a courageous battle with cancer. Her smile, love of life, happiness for everyone around her and enjoyment of all her volunteer work made her the special person she was. Dixie was deputy director for Emergency Support Services (which was her passion), a Red Cross volunteer, member of the E-COMMS ham radio club, Sea fair director and of course her beloved Red Hat ladies. She was also a sister of the Preceptor Alpha Rho sorority of Beta Sigma Phi. She had a passion for horses and for the ocean. Most of all, she loved her husband Fred, her children and their spouses, Tammy(Marie), Robby (Brenda), and much loved grandchildren Davinia, Zander and Kaelyn.
Dixie always said she lived a charmed life with her beloved Fred and could not have wished for more. She was so happy to have shared her life with him for 45 beautiful and loving years. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Love you Dixie
Dorothy June (aka Toots) Tweedle, June 12, 1949 - July 12, 2013
It is with heavy hearts we learned of June’s sudden passing on July 12, 2013. She was doing what she loved – swimming at Willingdon Beach. In 1991 Toots thoroughly enjoyed a helicopter ride over this area.
June was born and raised in Powell River. She was predceased by her loving grandparents Jean (1984) and Walter (1960) Haslam and her dad Raymond Tweedle (2004). Toots is survived by her loving family, mother Jeanie Tweedle, sister Diane (Dennis) Lackey, brother Walter (Lynn) and three nephews as well as Aunt Dorothy Martin and her family. She leaves behind her chosen sister and dearest friend Inge-Lore (Tom) Freeman and life-long friend Sandy Smith, as well as her current caregivers Pat and Mike Myers and their family, especially Sean.
During the last 11 months she was surrounded by much laughter and unconditional love. She was thankful for Pastor Carol Dennison in her life.
June was passionate about anything to do with Elvis Presley; her life long dream of going to Graceland and staying at Heartbreak Hotel was booked for October 1. She loved baking, gardening, knitting, learning a new language, walking and playing simple tunes on the piano. Whenever she felt an injustice had occurred she spoke up loud and clear.
Our family would like to thank the first responders who carried out CPR, Powell River RCMP and the BC Ambulance Service as well as Dr. Head at Powell River General Hospital Emergency room.
A service will be held Friday, July 19 at 10 am at Stubberfield Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Source Club Society, 4476 Cumberland Place, Powell River, BC V8A 2X4.
