Doreen Agnes Lamacraft ~ April 5, 1929 - June 20, 2014

Passed away suddenly on June 20, 2014 in Powell River, BC. Survived by her loving husband Harry Lamacraft, children Karel Gemmell (Gord), Wendy Dodd (Barry), Brian Lamacraft (Lisa Usher), sister Joyce Lloyd (Lorne), sister-in-law Gwen Lamacraft, grandchildren Daniel Gemmell, Katie Gemmell, Michael Dodd (Lianne Cranfield), Andrea Lee (Keith), and great grandchild Mary-Jane Dodd. Thank you to the physicians and nursing staff at Powell River Hospital for their care of Doreen during her stay and final day.

Doreen was born in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan, eldest daughter of Alan and Francis Fiddes. She lived in Vancouver, BC during her younger years. Doreen was attractive, a real 50s beauty. She first met Harry, the dashing sailor in Vancouver in 1953. It was love at first sight, with marriage and family to follow. Doreen managed the home and children on her own for many weeks at a time when Harry was away at sea.

Doreen had many talents in her lifetime! She was a Can-Can dancer in the late 1950s along with her sister-in-law. She later joined the Sweet Adelines singing group and travelled to Calgary and other venues to perform. Doreen volunteered at her children’s elementary schools and is remembered helping serve meals in the cafeteria and other functions. She became involved at St. Peter’s church and social functions in her late 30s and loved to make crafts and bake for the church bazaar. Doreen had a passion for decorating during the Christmas holiday season and her home made Christmas decorations are still hung on the family trees each year.

Doreen’s latter years since 1993 were spent in Powell River where she enjoyed bus tours to Reno and the many adventures with Heather Tours and Powell River friends. A recent highlight took place in April 2014 when she travelled to Fanny Bay, BC to visit with her great grand-daughter Mary-Jane Dodd who had just turned one year old.

Doreen had her own personal style and was always dressed to the nines at every occasion, even when she was relaxing at home. Doreen will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother; a great cook, a lover of good food, wine, much laughter, and really enjoying family get togethers. A celebration of Doreen’s life may be held at a later date. For more information, call Karel at 604.483.4014.

Sharon (Sheri) Roberta Brousseau ~ January 22, 1947 – June 26, 2014

We love you dearly for your dedication to your family, friends and the many others you may have affected by your random acts of kindness. Your naturally warm and outgoing personality created lifelong friendships with people that others may have simply passed by.

You had a strong desire to make the world a more beautiful place and your home full of memories. You loved your gardens, you loved your animals and you loved your home. You worked hard and tempered your days with a wonderful sense of humor. You wanted to see the world. Most things you achieved but time cheated you of others. You are truly one of the most beloved people we all know. We will miss the delicious smells of fresh pastries, pies, bread and the new dishes you loved to try. You were a master chef and you shared with all. We wish your travels to be what we imagined and that you receive the love, care and attention you deserve. We will always love you. We can only say ‘thank you Powell River’ for it would be near impossible to name on this page all those who helped us through the difficult times. What a wonderful and caring community we are privileged to call home. Sheri is survived by her husband Ken, sons Keith (Nanci), Cody (Julie), Kyle (Maylyn), stepchildren Brad (Michelle), Lynda (Andrew) and grandchildren Alexis, Sydney, Jack, Van, Cecilia, Jordie and Noah.

In lieu of flowers please make donations to Powell River Food Bank and/or Powell River Region Transition House Society. At Sheri’s request there will not be a formal service. Instead you may join us in celebrating her life in her favorite place on Earth, her garden. Please contact Ken or Kyle for details.

Alice Myrtle Guille ~ July 26, 1929 – June 26, 2014

It is with both sadness and relief that we announce the passing of Alice who died peacefully exactly one month before her 85th birthday. Originally a junior high school teacher in Edson, Alberta, Alice moved to Powell River with her husband Milton in 1993. She soon became a regular volunteer at the Hospital Auxiliary where she spent many hours sorting, cleaning and often repairing clothing donations making them presentable for resale at the Economy Store. Alice was predeceased by her husband Milton and is survived by her son Barry (Lynn), two daughters Marylynn (Bob) and Susan (Frank) as well as six grandchildren. Her generosity and good sense of humour will be missed by all who knew her. The family wishes to express our deepest gratitude to the staff at Olive Devaud Residence for their exemplary caring and unending patience and kindness. In lieu of flowers, please make a small donation to either Alzheimer Society of BC or Olive Devaud Residence.
