Floris Louise Smith December 11, 1918 - July 15, 2013

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and our role model at Powell River General Hospital. Floris leaves to mourn her daughter Louise Ferguson, granddaughters Cynthia (Bob) Thomson-Smith, Nadine (Angelo) Porchetta, Tanya (Owen) Forde, Sarah and Hannah Smith, grandsons Rod (Cheryl) Davenport, Darren (Debbie) Smith, Noah and Thomas Smith, great-grandchildren Krysta and Cameron Thomson, Ashleigh, Sharlae and Jaylene Davenport, Caitlyn, Brenna and Drake Smith, Mitchell, Cora and Willow Forde, William Davenport, Nicolas and Matteo Porchetta, sister Claire Partridge, daughter-in-law Lise Smith, many nieces, nephews, extended family, close friends and good friend Donna French.

Floris was predeceased by her husband and sweetheart, William (Bill), sons Bob and Ron, grandson Rick Davenport and son-in-law David Ferguson. She was also predeceased by her parents, two brothers and four sisters.

Floris was born in Calgary, Alberta where she met her sweetheart Bill at a family function. They married on June 28, 1936, moved to Vancouver, then Van Anda in 1940 and then to Powell River in 1943 with their two small children Louise and Bobby. They purchased the property that skirted Marine and Willingdon avenues with two large greenhouses and shacks. They established Westview Greenhouses and worked diligently toward a thriving business and comfortable home. Their third child Ronald was born in 1953. In the summer of 1959 their new flower shop opened at 4675 Marine with the name of the business changed to Smith’s Westview Florist. Floris was an accomplished floral designer and artist attending many design schools. She was also active in the Royal Purple and the Rotary Anns. Floris loved to dance and would do the hula if asked. She was a great lady, dressing immaculately and always with style. For the past year and a half, Floris was a resident of Olive Devaud Residence and loved it there.

Our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Head and the emergency room staff, Dr. Schweitzer, who looked after Floris for many years, the fourth floor nurses and staff and Olive Devaud caregivers and staff. You are all angels. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Powell River General Hospital Foundation.

Goodbye my Mama, we will all miss you and your wonderful smile. You are with your sweetheart now.
