Richard Gary (Dick) Noble – July 18, 1940 – June 22, 2013
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father who passed away peacefully in his son’s arms at Victoria General Hospital. Dick grew up in Alberta’s Crowsnest Pass, moving to Prince George with his parents in the late 50s where he met the girl who would become his wife of 51 years, Kenda Lea Carty. After raising a family and retiring from 34 years at BC Hydro, Dick moved with Kenda to Powell River, fulfilling their dream of living with an ocean view. Sadly, illness dogged them both the past 10 years and after losing Kenda six months ago, Dick’s health declined constantly until he was ready to find his way back to her. Leaving behind daughters Terri-Lea and Lana, son Wade (Mickie), grandchildren Trevor, Sean, Kayt and Steve, great-grandchildren Xander, Rolan, Draegan and Titus.
A celebration of Dick’s life will be Friday, July 5 at 1 pm at Stubberfield Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Powell River General Hospital Foundation would be appreciated.
Evelyn Kowal – 1928 – 2013
Evelyn passed away at home on June 25, 2013 after several years of declining health. She had partially recovered from a stroke in 2007 but was unable to get back to the busy routine she was used to.
Evelyn is survived by her two sons Robert (Lorraine) of Powell River and Mark (Jenny) of Mission, BC, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Barbara, brother Russell and many extended family members. She was a “people” person, always hospitable and attentive to the needs of others and concerned about their welfare. She was a prolific letter writer and except for the last few months, continued regularly to send out cards and letters to friends and family. As her health waned she used the phone to keep in touch.
Mom’s strong faith helped her to cope with daily struggles and gave her a positive view of the future. She passed away with the hope of one day being resurrected to paradise here on earth.
Sincere thanks go out to many who included Mom by visiting, calling or writing. Her mind was clear and sharp right to the last so she thrived on your interest and kindness. Thanks also to the many Home Support workers who contributed to her needs over the past few years.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 6, at 2 pm at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses at 4946 Manson Avenue. Flowers gratefully declined. The family welcomes all who wish to attend. Tea to follow.
