Richard (Rick) Patrick Davenport, May 30, 1958 – June 22, 2011

It is with great sadness that we anounce the sudden and unexpected passing of our beloved Rick in Ottawa, Ontario.

Rick is survived by his wife and best friend, Stephanie and son William of Ottawa, son Trevor Russ and granddaughter Tianna from Haida Gwaii, parents Louise and David Ferguson of Powell River, Dick and Joan Davenport of West Vancouver, brother Rod (Cheryl) Davenport of Port Coquitlam, sisters Cynthia Thomson (Bob) of Williams Lake and Nadine (Angelo) Porchetta of Powell River, grandmother Floris Smith of Powell River, step-sisters Brenda (Dan) Blanch, Kim (Danny) Stevens, Terry Ferguson, Sandy (Dan) McLeod, aunts Donna (Jim) Edgar, Anne Davenport, Lise Smith, Maureen Smith, many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. He was predeceased by grandparents Phyllis and Al Davenport, Bill Smith, uncles Bob and Ron Smith.

Rick was born and raised in Powell River and left when he was 17 years of age to join the Canadian Armed Forces. He spent five years as a soldier, his last posting being in Ottawa. He then travelled the world on his bicycle looking for new adventures. Upon his return to Canada he landed a successful career with the Government of Canada in Ottawa and worked his way through the ranks of his department receiving the Queens Golden Jubilee Award for his outstanding, exemplary contributions in public service. Rick was an amazing father to his son William, always taking him on adventures back to BC. He recently re-connected with his son Trevor and was looking forward to getting to know him. Rick touched many peoples lives and his passing has left a hole in our hearts.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 16 at 1 pm at St. Josephs Hall, Glacier Street. An account has been set up at the Scotiabank in trust of his son William Davenport.

We love and miss you Rick, your smile will live in our hearts forever!
