Constance Mary Louise Hugenschmidt
It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our loving mother, wife, grandmother and great-grandmother Constance Mary Louise Hugenschmidt, on June 14, 2014.
Mom will be forever missed and remembered by her loving husband of 61 years Walter, children Ernst (Ulla), Karl (Ju-Lyn), Alexander, Elizabeth, Robert (Vicki) and Walter (Donny); six grandchildren Patricia, Jennifer, Elaine, Colin, Robert and Darryl; great-grandchildren Kieran, Makayla and Ellara.
Mom was born on August 14, 1930 in Boston Bar. She lost her mother at a young age. She went to Saint Mary’s residential school in Mission, BC and then to Kamloops where she was one of the first residential school graduates of BC. She then went to Victoria Royal Jubilee Hospital to train for nursing. While working in the Emergency department at the hospital in Smithers, BC, she met Walter who had injured his finger at work and she applied a dressing and bandaged it. They moved to Prince Rupert, BC where they had six children, then moved to Powell River in 1972.
She was extremely gifted and enjoyed knitting, crocheting and sewing and created many beautiful things. She and Walter were members of the Harmony Club, and enjoyed their get togethers and visiting with friends. She especially enjoyed the surprise 65th birthday party that they gave her. She also appreciated seeing her neighbours on a regular basis.
She enjoyed travelling with her husband, and was ready to drop everything, pack their little pack sacks and they would be on their way, making several trips to Mexico, Cuba and Germany, and she especially enjoyed her trips to Hawaii.
She was the embodiment of love, compassion and acceptance. Her life was devoted to her husband and family. Family was everything to her. We will all miss her and her beautiful smile. The world is a little darker, heaven a little brighter since her passing.
Please join us for a celebration of life at 1 pm on Saturday, June 21, 2014 at Westview Baptist Church on Joyce Avenue in Powell River, BC.
