Line Estelle D’Onofrio (née Paquette)

Line, of Coquitlam, BC was born May 8, 1959, in Malartic, Quebec and was granted her angel wings on May 5, 2012. Her final days were spent surrounded by her family and friends, that Line had touched in some small way throughout her short, but very memorable, life.

Line’s life would seem too short to many, but those who were touched by her understood the quality of existence far exceeds the quantity of time in one’s life. She gave us all such courage and hope and reminded us of the preciousness of life.

Line was predeceased by her mother Rejeanne Paquette. She is survived by her loving husband Tony, daughter Jennifer (Darren) West of Coquitlam BC, son Aaron (Melissa) of Drumheller AB, grandchildren Kathlyn, Jayton and Felicity, father Vianney (Monique) Paquette, brothers John, Ghislain (Susan), Robert (Carmen), Mario (Michael Knight), Michel (LaDean), Stephan, her sisters Diane (Daniel) Cote, Sylvie, France (Gary) Gilies, Chantal (Peter) Grassman, Rachelle (Dana) Carriere, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and a very large extended family.

A celebration of life will be held on June 30, from 1 - 4 pm at the Cranberry Seniors’ Centre 6792 Cranberry Street Powell River.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Canadian Cancer Foundation or to Powell River Hospital Foundation.

Leslie (Laszlo) Bakan, September 5, 1936 - June 5, 2012

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Leslie Bakan after a short battle with cancer. Les was born in Murakeresztúr, Hungary. In 1956 he emigrated to Quebec and worked there for 10 years in a mine. Then, in 1971, he came to BC to work in the Texada mine, and later at the Powell River Mill. He had many hobbies including photography, hiking, travelling, birding, and playing cards, especially bridge.

He will be missed by his stepdaughter Claire in Quebec, brothers Imre and Jozsef, his dear cousin Babi, niece Ilona and other nieces and nephews in Hungary, and by many friends and coworkers in Powell River.

Thank you to Dr. B. Schweitzer and the nursing staff for their excellent care, to Claire who was in the hospital with him in his last week, and to Hospice volunteers and friends.

A celebration of life will be held on Monday, June 25 at 1 pm at the Alano Club, 5903 Arbutus Avenue. In lieu of flowers, donations to the SPCA (bird fund) would be appreciated.
