Earl Clifton Whitley

Earl passed away peacefully at the age of 94 on May 28, 2015, at Evergreen Extended Care Unit. Earl was born in Vancouver on April 1, 1921 and moved to Powell River in 1927.

Earl served in the Royal Canadian Air Force in World War II. After the war, he worked at Olsen Landing on Powell Lake and also owned and operated Earl’s Taxi & U-Drive for many years. After retiring, Earl worked for Shell Oil and reminisced fondly of those days. Earl was a very handy man who could fix anything.

In his spare time, he loved to go fishing and camping. He had a wonderful sense of humour that could make anyone chuckle. He will be dearly missed by many.

Earl was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Mafalda Catalano and their son Tony. He is survived by daughter Lorie (Benny) Pias, three grandchildren Nicolette (Anthony) Chavez, Ginnette (Shane) Oliberos and Brandon Pias, five great-grandchildren, many loving extended family members and close friends, including Sheri, Eleanor and John who spent many hours with Earl. Sincere thanks to staff at Evergreen Extended Care Unit who took the time to brighten his days.

At Earl’s request, no memorial service will be held. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the charity of your choice.
