Jean Marie Sherlaw Savage, January 5, 1921 - March 2, 2011 Born in Regina, Saskatchewan, Jean passed away peacefully in her sleep at Olive Devaud Residence. She is survived by her son John (Darlene) Kinzel and family of Paradise Hill, Sask.

Born in Regina, Saskatchewan, Jean passed away peacefully in her sleep at Olive Devaud Residence. She is survived by her son John (Darlene) Kinzel and family of Paradise Hill, Sask., daughter Judy  Ferguson, grandchildren Nicola Ferguson and Aron (Roxanne) Ferguson and four great-grandchildren.

Heartfelt thanks to Dr. Dohm and the staff at Olive Devaud for their kindness and excellent care. A celebration of life took place on Friday, March 11 at the Royal Canadian Legion, Texada Branch. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to BC Lung Association or cancer research.


Henry Vivier, October 22, 1935 - March 7, 2011

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Henry. He will be greatly missed, but never forgotten by his wife Margaret of 43 years, his children Melanie, Steve (Annette), Paul (Tanya), his seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

His family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Dr. Toole, Dr. Hoffert, Dr. Watchorn, and the nursing staff of Powell River General Hospital who assisted Henry to live out his life with grace and dignity. The funeral service and celebration of Henry’s life will be on Monday, March 14 at 10:30 am at the Sliammon Salish Centre, 4885 Hwy 101. In lieu of flowers, please donate in Henry’s memory to the BC Cancer Society.


Marcel Vallee, December 2, 1955 - March 2, 2011

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Marcel Vallee. He is survived by his loving wife Pia of 33 years, his daughters Lina, Karen (Morgan) and Melissa (Jared). He also leaves his mother Claire, his mother- and father-in-law Paolina and Giacomo Zago, his sister Claudette (Bob), brothers Claude (Rina), Robert (Brenda), Luke, Eugenio (Manon) Zago, Angelo (Andrea) Zago, Lorraine Lamb, nieces and nephews Tina (Chris) Stride, Natalie, Jenna, Jaimie, Tristan and Tyler, Anthony (Emily), Kaylee, Tyler, Brian, James and Jakob. He was predeceased by his father Philip in November 2010, brother Moe in 2001 and Coco in 2004.

Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on March 9 at Church of the Assumption. Donations may be made to the BC Heart and Stroke Foundation. Friends are welcome to offer their condolences online.


Roland Francis Shaw, July 23, 1927 - February 18, 2011

It is with profound sadness and treasured memories that the family of Roland Francis Shaw announces his passing at the Evergreen Extended Care Unit in Powell River, BC.

Beloved husband of Eileen (née Watterson) for 59 years, he was also dearest father of Cheryl Shaw, Candice Lewis and her husband Greg. Predeceased by his parents Lena and Lester Shaw, survived by his twin sister Alice Clarke, brothers Warren and Ralph (Elaine) and many nieces and nephews.

Roland was born in Cold Lake, Alberta and spent his school years in Alberta. Moving to Manitoba, he met and married Eileen, and worked for the Federal Department of Fisheries for many years. In 1973, he fulfilled a life-long dream, purchasing his own business, Shaw’s Solo Store in McCreary.

He was a long-time member of the Rotary Club and served the Village of McCreary as Mayor from 1983 to 1990. For the past 20 years, Rolly and Eileen enjoyed their retirement in Powell River. For the past 10 years, Rolly has lovingly cared for Eileen through her journey with Alzheimer’s.

A celebration of life will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Eileen’s name to the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
