Born in Mammola, Reggio Calabria, Italy on January 1, 1922, Joseph (Pep) Etelo Gentile passed away March 3, 2015 in Powell River at the age of 93 years.

Loving husband of the late Rital Gentile (Gervais), Joseph was the loving father of Kerin (Sharlene) of Kitimat, Wayne of Powell River and Chris (Dianne) of Clinton. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, sister-in-law Laurine and brother-in-law Ray. He was predeceased by his son Kim, brothers Carmen and Victor and his sister Gail.

Mass of Christian Burial was held on Monday, March 9 at Church of the Assumption. Arrangements entrusted to Stubberfield Funeral Home Ltd.


In Loving Memory of Dominic DeVita, April 9, 1946 - February 19, 2015

Aged 68 of Columbia City, Indiana, Dominic passed away peacefully with dignity and surrounded in love by family. He was born in Bagnoli Del Trigno, Italy to the son of Nazzario and Olga DeVita.

Dominic grew up in Powell River and graduated from Max Cameron High School, class of 1964. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Washington State University and went on to receive his Master of Music degree at Indiana University Bloomington 1971.

June 22, 1974 he married Susan Jo Reno in Hammond, IN. He began his musical career at Fox Products in South Whitley 1971 where he was an acoustical engineer and continued to work until 2014. He was also employed with the Fort Wayne Philharmonic as a first clarinetist from 1971 to 1979. Dominic was well respected by all within his musical organizations and his career at Fox Products. He was honoured for his achievements by the International Double Reed Society. He mentored people and his work led to the happy and successful careers of hundreds within his community.

Dominic was a loving, caring husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and a most wonderful son. He believed in the bond of a strong family and supported and encouraged all of us in our endeavours in life. Dominic loved the outdoors and brought his family to Powell River every summer and enjoyed hiking, swimming in the ocean, biking the trails and especially fishing. His faith and love for the Lord sustained him during the last two years of his illness. He will be dearly missed by family and friends.

Survivors include wife Susan DeVita, daughter Donna (Frank) Gallo, son Kenny (Megan) DeVita, grandchildren Ryan, Evin, Gavin and Erin DeVita, sisters Connie and Lena DeVita, niece Sherrie Ashworth and nephew Bill Ashworth. Dominic was preceded in death by his father, Nazzario DeVita and son Joseph Angelo DeVita.
