Marie Henriette Dufour
Our mother, Henriette, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 7, 2013 at Powell River General Hospital. She was surrounded by three of her children who witnessed the moment.
Henriette was a strong woman, in both mind and body, who fought kidney disease for many years. She survived many months beyond the expectations of medical staff and until the last few weeks of her life, was still going out to do small errands and even grocery shopping.
She joins her parents Philippe Aubin and Marie Groulx, her sister Cécile, and brothers Jean-Claude, Jean-Louis and Rodolphe. She was predeceased by her loving husband Jean-Paul on October 31, 1983 whom she missed dearly.
Henriette is survived by her brother Germain (Monique) and sisters Suzanne (Jean-Claude) and Louise, as well as her children Robert (Guadalupe), Brigitte (Craig), Jocelyn (Leanne) and Sandra, plus grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom she adored.
Prayers will be said on Wednesday, March 13 at 6 pm at the Church of the Assumption. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, March 14 at 11 am also at the church.
Rest in peace, maman.

Sadly, Leita Simard Lockstead Fahlman, a long-time resident of Texada Island and Powell River, passed away after a short battle with cancer.

She also leaves behind her children Stanley, Sylvia (Johnny), Gina, Jennifer (Greg) and heartbroken granddaughters Kristyn Moore, Stephanie Moore, Teresa Agostino and Makayla Hicks, much loved brothers Lawrence (Alice) and Alan (Rolande) and several nieces and nephews. She also leaves her dear friend of over 70 years Cecilia Charette. Leita was predeceased by her parents Leo and Merle Simard, her husbands Don Lockstead and Jan Vantaves and her precious grandson Nick Agostino who used to call Leita and Dan the “coolest grandparents in the world.”
Leita was active in the community and politics till the end of her life. She was also a music teacher and an athlete participating in the BC Senior Games Swim Team for the last several years where she won many medals. She also leaves her dear and valued friends who were part of her very active musical life, particularly Myrna and Faye with whom she played piano daily and the many friends and teammates she had from her swim team and the communities of Powell River and Texada.
A memorial will be held for her at a later date on Texada Island. She will be sadly missed.
