Leita Simard Lockstead Fahlman, June 23, 1933 - February 21, 2013
Sadly, Leita Simard Lockstead Fahlman, a long-time resident of Texada Island and Powell River, passed away after a short battle with cancer.
Leita is survived by her loving husband Dan Fahlman who was by her side as she drew her last breath. She also leaves behind her children Stanley, Sylvia (Johnny), Gina, Jennifer (Greg) and heartbroken granddaughters Kristyn Moore, Stephanie Moore, Teresa Agostino and Makayla Hicks, much loved brothers Lawrence (Alice) and Alan (Rolande) and several nieces and nephews. She also leaves her dear friend of over 70 years Cecilia Charette. Leita was predeceased by her parents Leo and Merle Simard, her husbands Don Lockstead and Jan Vantaves and her precious grandson Nick Agostino who used to call Leita and Dan the “coolest grandparents in the world.”
Leita was active in the community and politics till the end of her life. She was also a music teacher and an athlete participating in the BC Senior Games Swim Team for the last several years where she won many medals.
She also leaves her dear and valued friends who were part of her very active musical life, particularly Myrna and Faye with whom she played piano daily and the many friends and teammates she had from her swim team and the communities of Powell River and Texada.
A memorial will be held for her at a later date on Texada Island.
She will be sadly missed.
Eliza (Betty) Datwiler 1913 - 2013
Betty passed away peacefully on March 10, 2013. We are grateful that she had many opportunities to visit with her family before she passed. She will be dearly missed by her son Ken (Deborah), daughter Kitty (Johnny), grandchildren Sherry (Ray), Wendy, and Ken, great-grandchildren Jonathan, Courtenay (Ian) and Christian and great-great-grandchildren, especially Ricki and Carson whose visits delighted her.
Betty was born in Vancouver and spent her early married years on a dairy farm in Langley where she raised her children and worked hard to keep the farm running successfully. In the early 50s she moved to Powell River to start a new life and it was here that she found her calling as the owner of a thriving flower shop. Betty loved Powell River and she enjoyed a good life there as her family grew. In 2003 she moved to the Comox Valley for health reasons and in 2009 she moved into the Views in Comox. Betty made many friends among staff and residents and she actively participated in all of the activities. She was happy there and appreciated all that was done for her. She will be missed by her close friend Bernice with whom she formed a strong bond.
There will be no service at Betty’s request.
We will remember Betty for her quick mind, her good heart, her down-to-earth sensibilities, and her inner strength.
