Sigrid Hawkes, October 14, 1947 - February 17, 2013

Sigrid’s heart was as big as the whole world and encompassed everyone. To the last hours of her life she delighted in all things: people, animals, art, the sea, the moon, the wind, the sun, the trees. Please remember her in moments among these places in the world. Her last words were "I'm so happy."

As of March 10, 2013, there will be an account at the Scotiabank in Powell River for donations to feed the many, many cats she rescued and left behind. If anyone would rather donate to a registered charity please give to the SPCA in Powell River.

There will be a big party in her honour held on Saturday, May 25 from 3 pm until moonshine at the cabin on the beach at the end of Stustus Road near Palm Beach.

Donald Patrick Smisko, July 27, 1946 - February 26, 2013

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Don at his home in Powell River, surrounded by family. Don was born to the late Pearl and Alex Smisko in Wells, BC, the youngest of three children.

He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years Marianne, sons John (Angela), Randall (Hayley), Jordan (Danielle), his beloved granddaughter Teagan, his sister Gloria (Bill) McKinnon, his brother Barry (Susan), and a large extended family.

Don was known by many as a school district employee for 26 years. He was an avid Powell River Kings hockey fan and volunteer, and loved to watch minor hockey. He had many interests, but during retirement he especially enjoyed riding his motorcycle in the sunshine, trips to the public library, coffee with friends, and painting with acrylics.

He was a quiet person who had a beautiful heart, a quick, sarcastic sense of humour, and a strong dedication to his family and friends. His granddaughter, Teagan, was the treasure of his life.

A celebration of Don's life will be held on Saturday, March 9 at 2:30 pm at Cranberry Seniors’ Centre. Donations in lieu of flowers in Don's memory may be sent to Powell River Parks and Wilderness Society or BCSPCA.

Deanna Judith McGregor, July 8, 1964 - February 27, 2013

Entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, February 27, 2013 is our beloved Deanna Judith McGregor. Born July 8, 1964 to Sydney and Daniel Adamson, Deanna shared with the world 48 years of beauty, rarity and generosity.

Deanna is survived by her wonderful husband of 30 years Michael, her beautiful and brave daughter Jordyn, her loving parents Sydney and Daniel, her caring sister Susan, and her admiring niece Kori. Many other very close and dear family members and friends remember Deanna and have been of great support to the aforementioned during their time of struggle. Deanna's strong presence in the lives of others and in the Powell River community will be deeply missed but always remembered in the fondest of ways.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Deanna's honour on Sunday, March 10, from 2 to 4 pm at the Cranberry Seniors’ Centre, 6792 Cranberry Street. You are invited to share any words you may wish to about Deanna at that time—your input is encouraged and appreciated by all.

In lieu of flowers please donate to the charity of your choice.

Delphinium, Ad Infinitum

Lavished by her eloquence,

overwhelmed by her beauty,

wisdom and triumph bloom.

Her unique colours flourish,

the open petals of her heart allure,

ever entranced by her lingering perfume.

As seasons do this one must end,

her blossoms falling elegantly to the ground.

She leaves behind an everlasting imprint,

that by the memory of her virtue she will forever be found.

Kori
