Rosaline Anne Theresa Trafford (née Bogoslowski), December 13, 1956 - April 30, 2011
Rosaline passed to her final rest April 30, 2011, surrounded by the loving embrace of her husband and children in their home at 161 Bay Road near Lombardy, ON. She was 54. The immediate family nursed her through the final days of a year-long struggle with bowel cancer, honouring her request to be at home in her last moments, and have her medical and personal needs met by husband Dan Trafford, 57, and children Conor, 30, of Lombardy, Heather, 28, of Red Deer, AB, Stephanie 25, of Kingston, ON, and Jesse, 22, of Deep River, ON. They found it a tremendous blessing.
Rosaline was born in Powell River on December 13, 1956 and was greatly beloved by her grieving parents, John and Verna Bogoslowski, who still reside in Powell River. Also plunged into grief at her passing are her sisters Irene Ritossa, of Surrey, BC and Linda Charbonneau, of Powell River, brothers Bob Bogoslowski, of Powell River and Mark Bogoslowski, of Vancouver. Services were organized by Blair and Sons Funeral Home in Smiths Falls, ON and a memorial service was held May 4 at the Smiths Falls Seventh-day Adventist Church just south of Ottawa. Hundreds of people gathered to pay tribute to the kindness, generosity and loving example Rosaline set throughout her life at work, in her community and in her church.
She served as treasurer in her church for 20 years, worked diligently on a number of community service projects and programs, and gave unstintingly of her time and energy at the CIBC branch in Perth where co-workers testified about her invaluable contribution to morale and success at the branch. Replacement staff from other branches were called in to allow her colleagues to attend the services. She is greatly missed by all who knew her.
Rosaline was described by her family in the memorial service bulletin with the following words:
“My wife was the kindest person I’ve ever known. She worked and loved diligently in her special way and endeared herself to everyone she met.” ~ Dan ~
“The caretaker and referee. Two simple words that may seem inadequate but cover a huge spectrum that was absolutely key in keeping everything in our family together and running smoothly. She always put others first with no regard to how much it may have inconvenienced her or put her under pressure. Selfless, caring, loving, with a constant desire to make sure everyone was comfortable and happy as possible within her “realm.” That was who my mother was to me.” ~ Conor ~
“My mother spent much of her time caring for others. She was conscious of what she said, and how it would affect those around her. It was so wonderful to see her grow over the past year into a woman who asked for what she needed and was not afraid to tell us how much she loved each of us every day.” ~ Heather ~
“Mom had a way of keeping the peace; no matter the issue the only side she chose was the side that needed the most support. She did this in a way that never made anyone feel slighted.” ~ Steph ~
“Mom was a mom, always wanting to teach me life lessons, i.e. leaving me in the drunk tank, refusing to clean my room, forcing me to set up camp in the basement. Despite my flaws, she still loved and supported me through all my adventures.” ~ Jesse ~
