Doreen Hobbs (Branch)

It is with deep sadness that we share the news of our Mother’s sudden passing at her home in Courtenay, BC on Monday, May 7, 2012.

Born August 22, 1921 in Blythe, Northumberland, England, Mom emigrated to Canada with her family at the age of two years to settle in the small coal mining town of Michel, BC, where she spent her formative years. It was there that she also met Tommy Hobbs, the love of her life. They were married in Calgary, Alberta in 1946 then went on to make their home and eventually raise a family in Powell River, BC. Mom was a long-time employee of the local Sears store where she enjoyed serving customers and working with her fellow staff members.

Upon retiring, she and Dad relocated to Courtenay, BC to be closer to their two daughters and their families. Mom really enjoyed carpet bowling, playing bingo and many happy years camping in the Saratoga Beach area along with family and the many new friends that they made there.

Predeceased by her husband Tommy and grandson Blaire Andrews, Doreen is survived by her daughters Heather (Donald) Sprout and Mavreen Michyls, granddaughter April Andrews and six great-grandchildren Carmen, Raelynn, Levi, Jordan, Riley and Madison.

We loved our Mom very much and were well loved by her in return. We will miss her greatly and are thankful for all the wonderful memories she has left for us to reflect upon.

At Mom’s request there will be no service. In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to the charity of your choice.
