Clarence Tresham Wood, September 19, 1928 - April 30, 2012

Resident of Van Anda on Texada Island

After a courageous 10-year battle with cancer, Clarence passed away peacefully at Powell River General Hospital.

He was born in Portland, Oregon, but grew up in India, the child of Christian missionaries. Clarence was a curator of the Barkerville and later the Kilby museums and volunteered at the Texada Island Heritage Society, helping to develop the Texada Island Museum.

He was one of two children of the late Clarence and Amber Wood and was the beloved husband of Karen May. Clarence will forever be remembered by his beloved children Bonnie (Fred), Lisa-Marie (Dwayne) and Claire (Wayne). He was predeceased by his son Gaylord (Nina). He will be remembered by treasured grandchildren Nicole (Mark), Wesley (Amber), Natalie, Savannah, Emmett, Andrew, Sara-Ann, and Jonathon, and great-grandchildren Marcus, Angelina, Unity, Essence, Ryder, Clara and Blake, along with countless other friends and family who were blessed to know him.

Clarence loved listening to music, playing the guitar, boating, working at the museum, being with his family and friends, teaching school children and being an avid island explorer and passionate historian of Texada Island. Clarence touched the lives of many people with his smile and generosity, and maintained his trademark sense of humour right to the end. He will be sorely missed, but well remembered.

A service of remembrance was held on Saturday, May 5 at Texada Island United Church, followed by a reception at the Texada Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion.

Patricia Joy Hughes (née Kane) October 6, 1953 - April 25, 2012

Born and raised in Canada's Motor City (Oshawa, Ontario) Patricia Hughes was a funny, intelligent and fiercely selfreliant woman who raised her children to be the same. Her life was one of constant struggle, but she faced her physical challenges with a lion's courage and determined stoicism that amazed us all. Patricia was an advocate of common sense and showed us how a questioning, inquisitive approach to life would yield a true understanding of most things. She was fragile on the outside, but tough as nails within. We will never forget her generous heart.

Patricia is survived by her mother Gwen, brother Rob, son Ian, daughter Jillian and her grandson Mac.

No memorial will be held, although a small donation to the Arthritis Society or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
