Thomas John Ross, 1935 - 2012

Sadly our father passed on November 15 at Powell River General Hospital. He was predeceased by his wife Roberta in 2011. He is survived by his children Katherine (Randy), Valerie (Jack), Scott (Leslie) and grandchildren Langley (Andy), Shawn, Krista, Kaitlynn and his great-grandsons Tydus and Trentyn.

Dad was born in Cutknife, Saskatchewan and for 60-plus years worked in construction. As a younger man, he worked on many large projects in BC and in the later part of his career focused his talents on intarsia and fine inlay works.

One of Tom’s daily joys was meeting with his friends for coffee. He will be missed by his family and many friends.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Canadian Cancer Society.

The family would like to especially thank Dr. Hoffert and Dr. Schweitzer for their excellent care and kindness over the years.

A celebration of Tom’s life will be held on Saturday, December 22 at Cranberry Seniors’ Centre. Time to be announced at a later date.

Rene A. Schug, August 13, 1934 - November 7, 2012

Rene Albert Schug, or "Schugy," passed away on November 7, 2012.

Born August 13, 1934 in Provost AB to Robert and Marie Schug, Rene was predeceased by his brothers Raynold, Emile and Andy and is survived by brother Fred and sister Nelline Shiels. Rene is survived by Lorna, his wife of 58 years and children, Debbie, Doug, Larry and Angela, and their families. Rene worked at the Powell River pulp mill, and later transferred to the mill in Port Alberni. In 1968 he purchased the Sea Edge Motel in Parksville.

His happy nature and love of life kept him younger than his years, and it certainly helped him get through the many health challenges he experienced. Finally, it was his big heart that gave out, and he slipped away from us much too soon.

Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the charity of your choice are appreciated.

We miss you, Poppa Rene!
