Joan Krompocker (née Stephens), September 22, 1931 - October 3, 2013
My mother is someone very special!
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved mother. In Mom’s last hour with her three children by her side she remained sharp and quick- witted.
Joan was raised in the Shinglemill and went on to represent the Shinglemill in the Miss Sulpher Gulch pageant.
Joan was a very loving wife and a caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was very active in the community as a member of the Royal Purple, volunteering for the Powell River Health-Care Auxiliary and playing piano at Evergreen Extended Care Unit. She loved her gardens that were featured in many wedding photos. After suffering a stroke in 1996 she enjoyed attending Powell River Stroke Club.
Joan was predeceased by her loving husband and caregiver Emil, son Terry, parents Harding and Bernice Stephens and her brother Don. She will be greatly missed but never forgotten by son Don (Carol) Krompocker, daughters Karen (Pleamon) Stockley, Tammy (Terry) Olson, grandchildren Scott (Michele), Kristy (Kevin), Denise (Rusty), Shane and their mother Pam, Selena (Paul) and great-grandchildren Addison, Krystin, Katana, Karyssa, MacKenzie, Jade, Skylar and Chase.
The family would like to extend thanks and gratitude to Powell River Stroke Club, Olive Devaud Residence, Dr. Toole, Dr. Yap, BC Ambulance Service, Powell River Fire Rescue and the doctors and nurses at Powell River General Hospital.
To celebrate Joan’s life there will be a gathering of family and friends for a service at 2 pm on Saturday, October 12 at Powell River United Church.
Donations to Powell River Stroke Recovery Club, 3720 Marine Avenue, V8A 2H8, would be greatly appreciated.
Denise Magda Edwards (née Lindsay), March 31, 1925 - September 25, 2013

A graduate of the Vancouver General Hospital nursing program, she started her career in Yellowknife, NWT where she met her husband Ron. They were married for 60 years. Following Yellowknife the couple soon moved to Powell River where Denise retired as Supervisor of Nursing. Ron and Denise had many wonderful years of retirement, travelling the world and enjoying their home and friends in Powell River.
Denise is survived by her husband Ron, godson Alan Mackay-Smith (Merritt, BC) and Derek Nelson (Sechelt, BC).
