Gary Kenneth Hopkins, February 21, 1944 - September 20, 2012

It is with great sadness we announce the unexpected passing of Gary. He is survived by his loving wife Glenys of 45 years, his beloved children Keri (Colin) and Trevor (Christine) and grandchildren Nichollas and Mckenzie.

Gary was most known in Qualicum for having Gary’s Bistro, a local restaurant he owned and operated for the past 19 years, and cruising in his 55 ’Chevy.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 6 at 1 pm at the Qualicum Beach Civic Centre, 747 Jordan Street.

In honour of Gary, please drive your classic car as a tribute to a fine man who left us too soon.

Norma Emmonds March 23, 1930 - September 14, 2012

With great sadness, we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Norma.

She was predeceased by her husband Leonard Emmonds, all of her siblings, and her great-grandson Gary Hachez.

She is survived by her five children Lorraine, Dan (Connie), Ted, Arlene (Bram) Burge and Elaine. She also leaves behind her sister-in-law Doreen Rogers, 13 grandchildren, 20 greatgrandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Born in Lethbridge, Alberta, her family eventually moved to Texada Island where she met her future husband, Leonard. They soon acquired property in Powell River where Norma raised her children and worked tirelessly tending her large vegetable gardens and looking after the farm. Grandma’s house was a gathering place for friends and family alike. Her coffee pot was bottomless and no one ever left hungry.

We will always remember her caring guidance, her warm smile and her ability to see the good in everyone.

Please join us for a celebration of Norma’s life with a potluck luncheon on Saturday, October 6, from noon to 5 pm at Emmonds Beach.

Kathleen “Kay” Jewra, December 13, 1928 - September 26, 2012

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, nana and friend Kay.

She was predeceased by her loving husband Carle in 2006. She is survived by her two children Don “JJ” (Lorraine), Deb (Scott) and two grandsons Taylor and Drew. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and family out of town.

Kay was born and raised in Taber, Alberta. She completed her nurses’ training in Alberta at Holy Cross School of Nursing Alumnae in 1951 and moved to Powell River shortly after, where she met and married Carle in 1955.

Kay was an amazing lady who has touched many lives through her nursing career as well as her many craft, sewing and friendship projects.

Our family would like to thank everyone who has touched Kay’s life with their kindness, especially the staff at Evergreen Extended Care Unit who were incredible with her care in her last years.

In lieu of flowers, practice “random acts of kindness” with each other. Donations in her memory may be made to the charity of your choice.

Kay will always be remembered by her caring guidance. Her service will be held on Friday, October 5 at 1 pm at St. David and St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Townsite.
