James (Jim) Alexander JessAugust 28, 1949 - August 29, 2011

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of our dear Jim, beloved soul mate and best friend to Val, and loved dearly by their dogs, Molly and Mandy. Jim was predeceased by his father Richard (Jim) Stanley Jess. Left to grieve are those who loved and admired him more than he knew: his mother Eileen, sister Vicki (Robert) Dunn, son Richard, daughter Mandi and grandchildren Alesandra and Khieran. Jim was an amazing stepfather to Monice, Ken and Dale and the most patient and loving poppa to Cheyenne and Joshua, Lindsay and Kayla, Alyssa and Cameron, Katie and Ryan (Kara) Herrington, Adam, Kayla, Kevin and Destiny. Jim doted on Val and never hesitated to do whatever he could to bring her joy or to make her comfortable. They enjoyed their routine, quiet coffee times together and also experienced exhilarating adventures such as swimming with dolphins and skydiving. Jim was a hard-working man, in his work ethic and at home, always quick to lend a hand and ready to take on any task to be helpful. He was an incredibly patient and devoted step-poppa and eagerly took every opportunity to teach to his "heart-adopted" grandchildren valuable lessons and life skills and always attended all of their practices, games and events with complete joy. The children knew they were special to their poppa. His son Richard filled him with great pride and he spoke often of his most recent accomplishments with his work with BC Hydro. He was also very proud of Mandi’s accomplishments as a dental technician. His children had a special place in his heart of their very own. Jim gave and gave endlessly, and left us with the blessing of walking this earth for a short time with a very good man. He was a privilege to know and there are not enough words to express our grief.

Jim, our Gem, you didn't leave. You just had to go home early.

A memorial service was held for Jim on Friday, September 2 at 1:30 pm at Evangel Pentecostal Church. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the local SPCA
