Isaac Thiesen, January 7, 1921 - September 16, 2013
Isaac Thiesen passed away peacefully at Powell River General Hospital at the age of 92 years with family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Dorothy, married for 68 years, and loving father of Larry of Comox, Danny, Dennis, Ivan, Judie Boisvert and Julie of Victoria, Doug, Geri Powell and Doreen Bishop of Powell River. He is also survived by his four sisters, Helen Moen of Medicine Hat, AB, Susan Jones of Chilliwack, Maragaret Linberg of 100 Mile House and Mary Goodison of Sorrento. He leaves behind 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Isaac was predeceased by his parents Abram and Helena, his 10 brothers and three sisters, his sons-in-law Bill Powell in 1981, Chuck Boisvert in 2013 and daughter Evelyn Wilson in 2005.
Isaac moved to Powell River in 1950 to work for MacMillan Bloedel for 26 and 1/2 years. During his lifetime Isaac enjoyed success in expressing his own creativity and ideas doing what he loved best, carpentry. Isaac volunteered his time with the building of the Evangel Pentecostal Church (now Jean Pike Centre) on Alberni Street and he would help anyone who asked, on any building project, be it his family or friends.
At 76 years young he was still actively working in the construction trade. He had a love of music and played the violin and harmonica and sang along at many family gatherings. Isaac enjoyed his yearly moose hunting trips and enjoyed fishing and camping with his family. He also loved his daily outings for his Tim Hortons coffee.
The family expresses gratitude to the staff of Powell River General Hospital Emergency Room and Intensive Care Unit. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Canadian Liver Foundation or BC Cancer Society.
A celebration of life will be held at Powell River Town Centre Hotel, 4660 Joyce on Saturday, September 28, 2013 at 1 pm with reception to follow.
