Police say six adults and six youths face a total of 136 charges after an investigation into violent home invasions and jewelry store robberies in the Greater Toronto Area.

Peel Regional Police say the investigation dubbed Project Night Train focused on 17 violent incidents that took place between May and December 2024.

In one incident that occurred on Oct. 15, police say three suspects forced their way into a Mississauga, Ont., home where an altercation happened and a victim survived being shot in the chest.

Police say another incident on Oct. 22 involved two suspects who followed the victims into a Brampton, Ont., home, demanded keys to a luxury vehicle and assaulted one victim, rendering them unconscious.

They allege that one of the suspects reversed the vehicle over the victim, who was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries but is expected to recover.

Police say the 12 suspects range in age between 15 and 30 and are accused of attempted murder, robbery, firearms-related offences and possession of property obtained by crime, among other criminal charges.

Police say an arrest warrant has been issued for one suspect who is still wanted by police.

Peel Regional Police Deputy Chief Nick Milinovich said more than $2 million worth of property was stolen from the victims, including vehicles and jewelry, and police were able to recover almost half of it.

He said the force will not accept such criminal activities in the community.

"If you come to Peel to target our community, you can expect that we will come to you and remove you from our community," he said at a news conference Tuesday.

"We will continue the battle against violent crime, particularly in the area of home invasions."
