Blackberry Street Party is here again and it’s time to venture out onto the avenue and take a good two hours to complete what should be a 10-minute walk. It’s time to enjoy bumping elbows with people you see all the time and people you maybe only see once a year at the very same party.
Something nice about living in a small city is that community events truly feel like community events. It would probably be easy for a resident of Nanaimo to head on down to some outing in their own city and not see another soul who they know. Such is not possible at Blackberry.
On Friday night it literally feels like half the town is there and that’s probably not far off. It’s truly wonderful to walk down Marine Avenue saying hi to everyone you know and taking in the sights, sounds, events and, of course, tastes.
Blackberry Street Party is one of the best nights of the year for Powell Riverites. Not every town or city comes together the way people do in Powell River and we should be proud of the spirit of this community. So, enjoy the long-winded stroll, eat or drink a blackberry treat and soak in friendliness and charm. See you there.
