Did you make a resolution on January 1, 2021? Were you successful in achieving the desired outcome?

Setting a New Year’s resolution is about attempting to do better than last year.

Was 2021 better than 2020 for you or worse? COVID-19 is still prevalent, which affects everyone in one way or another, or perhaps in all ways. But other than choosing to be vaccinated and following public health guidelines, as well as mask wearing and practising good hygiene, the spread of coronavirus is largely out of the individual’s hand.

How about personal goals? Did you make a resolution on January 1, 2021? Were you successful in achieving the desired outcome?

Whatever the result, there is always a time for trying again, improving, or setting another goal.

Resolutions need not be lofty. Hard-to-reach goals require a lifestyle change, and take persistence as well as a lengthy commitment, perhaps for a lifetime, to achieve desired results and avoid slips in the wrong direction.

Some finish lines may be reached in weeks or months, others may take all 365 days, or more, to feel the rush of accomplishment.

Anyone who made it through 2021 and reached a set goal, or goals, deserves a pat on the back. Just remember, complacency leads to regression, and can result in a reached goal slipping away. Ever lose weight and then gain it back, plus a few more pounds?

If you didn’t reach the top of the mountain in 2021, try a different approach or take a new path in 2022. It is never too late to start again, whether the attempt ends mere days into January, or weeks or months later. No need to wait until 2023 for another attempt. Tomorrow is another day; you can always try again.

As motivational speaker Anthony Robbins says: “The past does not equal the future.”

Best wishes from everyone at the Peak for a successful 2022.
