With spring’s arrival comes new life.

People come across fawns, bear cubs and seal pups at this time of year and think they have been abandoned.

Animal mothers often leave their babies to go off and hunt for food. Nature has its own way of protecting the babies.

Newborn fawns have no scent and are well camouflaged. Seal pups are often left on the beach hidden among rocks.

While people think the mother has been killed, the great majority of the time this isn’t the case. The mother is going about her business and will soon return.

It’s incumbent upon those who come across the babies to leave them alone. If people really worry about newborns, they can check on them again at a later time.

If the babies are still alone after 24 hours, then a conservation office can be called.
