All referendum voting packages need to be returned to Elections BC by Friday, August 5. Referendum results will decide if the people of this province want to keep the HST or go back to the old PST and GST system.
The provincial New Democratic Party is pushing for people to vote against HST. Premier Christy Clark and the Liberal Party are promising to lower the tax to 10 per cent in 2014 if we choose to keep it. Debate over the tax has been loud and fierce and has already resulted in the resignation of a premier and a complete shake up of our provincial politics. Some see it as an economics issue, others seem to be taking it personally, but nearly everybody has something to say about it.
Whether or not you agree with the tax or the way that it was brought in, the important thing is to send your vote in and have your voice heard. You still have time to mail in the voting package, return it to a local Service BC centre (same building as the Provincial Courts in Powell River) or to Elections BC Collection Centres in Vancouver and Victoria.
