After a two-year absence due to COVID-19 lockdowns and restrictions, one of our area’s most popular events is set to return.

Marine Area Business Association (MABA) recently announced its annual Blackberry Festival will take place Friday, August 19.

In a media release, MABA president Ian Fleming stated that “Blackberry Festival is one of the best-loved events of this region. We are sure that many people will be thrilled to know they can enjoy the festival again this year.”

No kidding. Who can argue with that? Taste buds are likely salivating upon this reading as everyone reflects on their favourite food item found among the many options lining Marine Avenue on what some refer to as the social event of the season.

PRISMA is returning this month, too, including PRISMA on the Beach on June 18; Powell River Sports Hall of Fame is inching closer to its 2022 induction ceremony on June 11 at Hap Parker Arena; and International Choral Kathaumixw is hosting a scaled down event tomorrow featuring local choirs before returning in full force in July of 2023.

“For a few hours, we’re able to come together, experience great food, drink, entertainment and vendors, and we’re pleased that the fireworks, sponsored by Quality Foods, will once again cap off the evening,” added Fleming. “After two years of the pandemic, we feel this is something the community needs.”

Food, fireworks, indoor and outdoor gatherings, it’s almost like being transported back to 2019, when the only worry was whether the weather would affect anything happening outside.

Anyone hungry for some blackberry-themed treats?
