Does the legendary New Year’s resolution work? According to Les Brown, one of the world’s most celebrated motivational speakers, only nine per cent of the world’s population who set New Year’s resolutions actually achieve them.

We all want to change our lives to a higher standard, but how do we do that without upsetting the status quo?

We also want to know which route is the fastest with guaranteed results. Sorry, my friend, that one doesn’t exist.

The route that has worked for many successful people involves a constant recreation of yourself at any age, and at any time.

Evaluate last year
How was your 2022? What did you accomplish that you are proud of? What obstacles have you encountered and how did you resolve them?

Over the past 30 years, I have been fortunate to be able to change my life many times. It started with a simple question: What do I like about my life? Almost every area of my life screamed desperation for change.

I’ve made many mistakes in my journey and learned lessons. I was lucky to discover my passion for writing and helping people achieve harmony in their homes and life.

Decide who you want to be
Many people are trapped in life, trying to figure out who they are instead of the person they want to be. They become overwhelmed with the daily grind of life and forget about their future goals.

Keep in mind that your goals don’t have to be about assets or money. Your goal could be to become more assertive, confident, persistent or patient.

Prioritize your goals
Nobody can do everything at once. Often, achieving one goal means having to postpone other goals because you simply can’t do 10 different things and do them well.

Start by asking what is the one goal, if completed, that would help transform your life in other areas. Is it your home function? Your health? Or your career?

Start with a new location
People say they want to change their lives, yet they continue to hang out with the same crowd, do the same things and continue life with the same habits. But if everything is still the same, how can they change?

The fastest way to succeed in a new environment is to volunteer for any of the local charities. There, you will find your tribe, the people to whom you can relate. Also, check out Powell River Public Library for what events and programs it offers.

Require more from yourself
It’s human nature to choose a path that’s easy and predictable. Few people can claim success while in their comfort zone.

Push yourself to do the things that are not comfortable, but beneficial to your home, health and family.

It’s time to decide
When it comes to a life-changing decision, many of us become overwhelmed with questions.

“Should I change my job? Should I start a business? Should I move to a new city?”

We become indecisive by overthinking and delaying. This is usually when fear of change sneaks in, and then we settle for less. Time passes quickly and years later, we feel stagnant and unhappy.

When you choose to venture out, there is no guarantee of success. But the experience of trying new things might help.
