We live in a beautiful place surrounded by the ocean, plenty of trees and beautiful gardens, created by hardworking qathet region residents.

The weather was amazingly mild through the beginning of fall, but has cooled considerably in November. The colourful leaves are telling us it’s fall time.

There is a lot to do, especially if you are a homeowner. Some of these chores are not very pleasant, but they have to be done before the winter arrives.

Here are some of the fall projects you still need to consider. Leaving them for the next spring is not a good idea.

In the springtime, you will have more work and some important projects will stay unfinished.

Clean windows
Don’t miss the opportunity to enjoy a beautiful day. Get your squeegee and window cleaner. Work on cleaning a minimum of two windows each day until they’re all done. Each average-size window shouldn’t take more than five minutes. In one hour, you probably can finish all of them. Time yourself, then next year, you won’t be guessing.

Spray and hose down
Lawnmowers, garbage containers, bikes, toys, outdoor furniture and other items stored in the garage tend to get very dusty. Schedule time to spray the things with a non-toxic, all-purpose cleaner.

Wait 15 minutes, then hose them down. Let them dry before storing inside your shed or garage. While everything is out in the driveway, organize and clean your garage.

Closet organizing
Start sorting your wardrobe from last fall and winter, and decide what you want to keep. Get a donation box ready for the items you don’t need. If you have items that need mending, make sure you have the time to do so. Now is the time to take inventory and determine what you need for your winter wardrobe.

Donate outdated toys
Get your kids together to sort their toys, old phones and books. Ask them to donate or sell the items not wanted or needed. If they decide to donate, drive together to a charity drop-off to make your donation. Reward them for their generosity by purchasing a new toy or book.

Start holiday shopping
It’s not too early to make a list for upcoming holiday shopping. You probably remember last year’s holiday rush, long lines and the frustration of finding out that the item you want is sold out.

Prepare for guests
The guest room is the easiest room to organize and decorate. What do you need for your guests to feel welcome and comfortable? A bed, single or queen size. A night table and lamp are a must.

If you have a closet, the dresser is optional. Possibilities for being a creative decorator are endless. Make sure you have two large towels, a couple of hand towels, face cloths and some fancy soaps.

Stock up on books and magazines. Healthy local snacks are highly recommended.
