I cannot understand why Parkland has consistently kept the Powell River gas prices so high. Even in the farthest north Vancouver Island community of Port Hardy is well below our prices ["Gas prices could rise for long weekend and into summer amid fires, economic worries," May 19].
This has been going on for a long time and when one person owns more than one gas station in a city such as ours, it is blatant gas price fixing for the benefit of extra profits at the expense of our landlocked community.
The tugboat company towing the barges from the Fraser River in early morning under the cover of darkness to bring the gas tankers to our community are also part of the problem.
This is absurd and greed at the expense of all our households. Times are hard enough for the majority of the people in our community. We should all be fair and honest with everyone to be able to persevere through this unprecedented time in our lives.
I don't understand why Powell Riverite's put up with paying the highest price of gas in the BC. This has been going on for way too long and it's time for a change and to not allow this to happen.
I hope someone with authority has the ability to actually stop this unfair and unacceptable gouging of the fixed-price system we have in qathet Regional District.
