I am writing regarding the green compost recycle bins that a select few have received and are benefitting from [“Recycling project to proceed in Powell River,” December 7].

Every two weeks these selected folks get the luxury of their yard waste and compost picked up at their driveway, while the rest of us have to use our trucks (if we have them), our gas and our time to take free to the one in town or, if we miss that day, pay for disposal at Augusta Recyclers.

This pilot project has been going on for well over two years. When is it going to be finished? Why are these bins not collected after six months and redistributed to new people to get an idea if this project will work?

We as taxpayers are subsidizing these bins and we all deserve the luxury for rolling our yard waste to the end of our driveways that these select few have been doing for over two years. Seems to me this pilot project needs to be implemented, bins collected and rotated, or done.

Many people I have spoken to weren’t even aware this was going on at our taxpayer’s expense.
