A heartfelt thank you to the crew and travellers aboard the April 15 7:30 a.m. Horseshoe Bay to Langdale sailing.
As I was walking on to the ferry carrying my mom’s calico kitty in a soft-sided carrier, the cat spotted a dog and panicked. She got her paw in the zippered seam of the carrier and pulled it open just enough to dart out onto the car deck.
I immediately informed the chief steward of my missing feline. He made repeated announcements on the PA system and got the crew into action looking for Peanut the cat. Pretty soon a great many of the passengers also went into full-scale search mode.
When we docked in Langdale we still hadn’t seen any sign of her. Another announcement came over the PA, advised drivers to proceed carefully as they disembarked and watch for Peanut. Almost as soon as the cars started their engines, someone spotted Peanut under a vehicle. The crew stopped traffic and a group of us surrounded the car. Thankfully I was able to snatch her to safety. The whole crowd cheered and cars honked their relief.
Thanks to the care and competence of the Queen of Surrey crew and its caring passengers it was a very Good Friday.
