Letter: Jumping the gun on renaming

We are all jumping the gun on renaming places and businesses in Powell River.

The regional district changed its name for areas north and south of Powell River because it needed to distinguish itself from the city.

We need to allow the process that has been put in place by City of Powell River and Tla’amin Nation, to work its way through, run its course.

If the regional hospital district changes its name to qathet, ["Powell River Regional Hospital District board to receive possible renaming recommendations,” March 11], and if/when the city, where the hospital is located, changes its name to “Pleasant River,” will the hospital district change its name again, to whatever the city name becomes?

It seems silly, a waste of time, effort and probably some money, to not wait for the process that is fully underway to come to completion.
