Letter: Powell River needs bus service

I’m a retiree, with only limited years of driving left. Without a car, I will not be able to go to and from Vancouver because there is no bus service between Powell River and West Vancouver [“Improved transportation being planned by qathet/Sunshine Coast regional districts,” December 2].

Flights are out of reach for people on limited pensions. I may have to stop going to my retinal surgeon for checkups

This community also needs regular bus service both north and south of us between Lund and Saltery Bay in both daytime and evening.

BC Ferries prices are almost as bad as flights. I rarely leave Powell River because of this. BC Ferries should be part of the highways system. I note that ferries across the lakes in the interior of the province are free and ferries in the Atlantic provinces are heavily subsidized by the federal government. We ought to be, too.
