Powell River Peak letter

Thank you to the Peak for publishing the article about Mike Warriner and his years in Powell River as a member of the Paper Kings [“Memorial tribute honours former Powell River Paper King,” February 22].

The tribute to Mike that day was so uplifting, at a time when it was greatly needed.

Even though Mike had left the community 23 years ago, the attendance and generosity shown that day spoke to the impact he had on team and the town.

During the pregame ceremony, I neglected to mention some people who were very instrumental in the success of the day. Shannon and Rick McLaren for organizing the boxes and baskets in the arena for the donations, and their families for collecting them. Also Sherri Wiebe of Blue Steel Imaging for the generous donation of her time, equipment and all but the cost of the shirts sold that day to help Mike and his family.

I have been in Invermere to be with Mike’s family since the tribute held in Powell River. They are overwhelmed by the support shown by our community that was such a big part of his life.

On their behalf, thank you all so much.
