Letter: We need to transition to a low-carbon future

"We absolutely owe it to the next generation."
letter_to_editor

We continue to squabble over an upcoming carbon tax increase ["Gas prices to go up with carbon tax April 1," March 29].

Meanwhile, the World Meteorological Organization recently issued a red alert for the planet as temperature records were broken on every single continent simultaneously. In fact, 2023 was the hottest year recorded over the past 10,000 years.

The monetary cost of fossil fuel is fast becoming a moot point, in comparison to the ultimate cost which we will all pay. Axe the tax? It's time to axe the denial.

Do you want to talk about affordability? We can no longer afford to blatantly ignore the climate and ecological crises. Media outlets are ethically bound to report the cold hard truth.

The truth is that we need to transition to a low-carbon future faster than an Olympic sprinter. We absolutely owe it to the next generation.
