Vote for healthy oceans

Before my husband and I moved to the West Coast we did not really appreciate or realize the extent of the life in and around the ocean. We see the fullness and the rhythm of those waters now in a new light.

The interconnections between the ocean and the wildlife on shore, the dependencies, and even the culture surrounding life on the edge of the water could be in such jeopardy if there is any variation, pollution or spills. The impact would be enormous! Already we see oyster farmers dealing with problems of acidic water and also diseases affecting starfish.

We literally have to stay in touch with what is below the surface. We are connected to that whole system. Protection of our shores and oceans is absolutely necessary!

Our vote in the next election will be based on the party that pledges to address these issues [“Federal election candidates pinpoint fisheries and aquaculture,” September 30].

On October 19, let’s get out in record numbers to vote for healthy oceans and a Canada we believe in.
